A Carpenter can provide services throughout the home from timber floors and framework, the roof, ceilings, installation of windows, sashes and doors to a new build such as Cottages or Timber Framed Houses. Carpenters can also work on the outside of a building such as bridges, dams and civil engineering structures. There are many types of Carpenter and depending on what exactly it is you after will depend on the skill you are looking for.

A Trim Carpenter specialises in moulding and trim, such as doors, windows, casings & mantels.

A Cabinetmaker is makes fine and detailed work, specialising in cabinets such as wardrobes, dressers, storage chests etc.

A Ship’s Carpenter is exactly that, a carpenter for ship builds. This can also include maintenance and repairs.

A Scenic Carpenter is a carpenter building sets for film-making, TV, and theatre they would also deconstruct temporary scenery.

A Framer would assemble the main parts of a structure for a wood framed house such as stud walls, floors, joists, beams etc.

Joiners (aka Finish Carpenters) usually work indoors and specialise on internal fittings such as window frames, doors, & staircases. Joiners will make sure everything is installed and fits perfectly using the correct joints. Joiners will mostly work within a workshop joining the wood together to make a staircase for a carpenter to install the staircase in to your home.
